Skidding is a scary situation, and it happens mostly to fast drivers. However, if you understand the basics behind a skid, and how to avoid or maneuver through it, you can easily get back your car under control. The two ways that a skid can happen include oversteer and understeer.

Oversteer

This is the situation that you experience when you direct a car to turn at a particular angle, but the car turns more than you direct it. It is as a result of the rear tires losing the first grip, which causes the back end of the car to continue in a straight line in a corner.

Understeer

This is the opposite of oversteer. It basically means that the car turns less than how the driver commands it to turn. Here, the front wheels continue to go straight even though you are turning the steering wheel. This normally happens when the traction on the front tires is not enough, or when the load on the front tires is too much to handle.
