While accepting the award, Roberto Rossetti, Vice President of Engineering, BMW of North America, commented, "Last year BMW turned 100 years and during that time our company has become famous for its iconic 6-cylinder inline engines. Today BMW continues to receive accolades in front of the most respected engineers in powertrain and technology in the industry. The inline-6 will continue to be part of BMW legacy. All in all, the B58 is a smoother, higher performing more efficient engine that ensures BMW delivers the true and typical driving dynamics to our customers of the Ultimate Driving Machine."

The award was given to the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder inline engine in the BMW M240i, which makes 335-horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The engine is capable of a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, and still gets an estimated 26 miles per gallon.
