Maybe we're just missing something, but we here at BMW Portland don't see too many plug-in hybrid supercars on the road when we're commuting to and from work each day. On the one hand, it's not all that surprising considering the tragic lack of plug-in hybrid supercars that are currently on the market. On the other, it's a darn shame. After all, we couldn't be more excited about the upcoming arrival of the BMW i8, and if all goes according to plan, plug-in hybrid supercars might be everywhere you look.
Now, we understand that some of you might be a tad reticent to jump on the bandwagon with this one. Once upon a time, we may have been right there with you. But when you consider how many hybrids and plug-ins are parked in people's driveways these days, it's hard to imagine their popularity decreasing at this point. And while the United States of America has always been a fan of its gas-powered four-wheelers, the brass at BMW see a window of opportunity.
When recently questioned about the global markets that the BMW i8 will cater to, the plug-in hybrid supercar's product manager, Hendrik Wenders, stated that the US would far and away be the largest one. As for the drivers that will flock to this eco-friendly, fuel-efficient car of the future, BMW is targeting technologically-savvy men who are at least 35 years old. But once the States gets a load of this bad boy, something tells us that target will widen.
Unfortunately, we still have a ways until it reaches our shores and it won't be unveiled in the metal until the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. But if you'd like to learn more about all it will have to offer, the experts in our car parts department would be happy to fill you in at our dealership here in Portland, OR. Because before long, these roads of ours may never be the same.
