The 2017 BMW 5 Series Earns the Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS

BMW vehicles are known for premium performance on the Portland roads. They're becoming known for exceptional safety, too. In addition to the BMW 2 Series and 3 Series earning top safety ratings, the 2017 BMW 5 Series has also been named a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

In order to earn the Top Safety Pick+ designation, the highest safety rating from the IIHS, a vehicle must earn "good" ratings in five crashworthiness tests, including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints. They also must receive an "advanced" or "superior" rating for front crash prevention, and an "acceptable" or "good" rating for headlights.

What about the 5 Series landed the top rating? A combination of its structural design using lightweight high-strength steel, aluminum and magnesium, and its advanced safety features. Safety features, like Blind Spot Detection and Lane Departure Warning, help drivers prevent accidents from even happening.
